December 19, 2011 - NASHUA – World Academy partners each year with the Humane Society for Greater Nashua and the Nashua Pastoral Care Center for the school’s December Community Service Project.
The “Giving Tree” has been lit and decorated annually in World Academy’s lobby for nearly 10 years. Tags from the Nashua Pastoral Care Center and the Humane Society for Greater Nashua decorate this particular conifer, and each tag bears the name of a child or animal who will benefit from the donation of the gift indicated. The tags are provided to the school by NPCC and HSFN, and this year the tags were gone from the tree in less than a week – every tag was taken by a family or staff member looking for an opportunity to give. The school’s Director, Lynn Ouellette, was thrilled to make the call to her contacts and request more tags, but not surprised. “The fact that we ran out of tags, especially in an economy such as this, is a testament to the spirit and generosity of our school’s community,” she said. “All community outreach projects we sponsor to ‘give back’ to our larger community, are always very well supported. This is, however, a particularly meaningful learning model for our students,” Ouellette states. “To give to those in need, to participate in making someone else’s holiday season wonderful, it fits our philosophy of learning through experience. I can’t think of a better way to ‘teach’ the spirit of giving. It is vital that we, as a school, give back to our local and global communities.” The Nashua Pastoral Care Center and the Humane Society For Nashua rely on donations like the ones made by the World Academy community to continue the work they do for the Greater Nashua Community.
