With The Top Spot, World Academy Looks Forward to State-Level Competition in March
On Saturday, Feb. 3, the Math Team from World Academy in Nashua came in first place at the Annual Seacoast MathCounts Regional Chapter competition.
The winning team included World Academy students Samuel Dunlay, Mia Karlsson, Declan Muir, and Veronica Luchanok.
In what has become a prestigious competition among local schools, these four World Academy students competed against 15 other regional middle school teams, comprised of over 140 total participants.
For the first two rounds, students competed independently. The third round, held as a team round, saw the students work in groups of 4 to compete against other teams. The top-scoring individuals from the first two rounds then came together to compete in a fast paced, head to head oral round where problems posted on a projector and the two contestants race to finish the problem.
Among the World Academy students, Samuel Dunlay placed 3rd in the Count Down Round and 2nd in the individual round; Declan Muir placed 1st in the Count Down Round and 5th in the individual round; and Mia Karlsson placed 4th in the individual round. World Academy students Jack Schroeder, Sami Witta, Nikolai Checkin, David Schroeder, and Hrushikesh Sankaranaarayan also competed with strong showings all around.
World Academy's MathCounts team will now move on to compete at the State-Level competition, which will be held in March at Plymouth State University.
