World Academy, a private, independent school for students from Infants to Grade 8 in Nashua, has partnered with a pair of local non-profit organizations to bring some much-needed holiday cheer through their annual Giving Tree initiative.
Both partner organizations support the homeless populations in the Nashua area. One – The Front Door Agency – is a Nashua-based organization that helps provide a hand-up to individuals and families at risk of homelessness. The second – The Humane Society of Greater Nashua – is the local destination for cat, dog, kitten, puppy, or small animal adoption.
“We consider this a teachable moment where students learn how important it is to show compassion and empathy towards those that need it most during the holiday season,” says Kathy Nelson, Head of School at World Academy. “It’s incredible to watch these students take such gratitude in helping others. They are naturally drawn to these acts of kindness and the hope is that this effect stays with them for the rest of their lives.”
The Giving Tree was decorated with a collection of ornaments marked with holiday gifts for the children of families supported by Front Door or with specific items needed by the Humane Society. Students selected one or two ornaments and then purchased those items before placing them under the tree.
The Giving Tree itself was located at the entrance of the World Academy Entrance Hall. Gifts were placed underneath the tree starting November 30th and concluded December 11th with an impressive collection of heart-felt gifts.
