The Successful Launch with N1FD Gave Students Hands-On Experience
Fifth-Eighth Grade students of World Academy in Nashua recently partnering with the Nashua Area Radio Society (N1FD) for the first World Academy STEM CLUB project involving the making and launching of a High Altitude Balloon.
The High-Altitude Balloon, called HAB-3, launched successfully on Sunday, June 3 from the Hollis-Brookline High School in Hollis, NH. The balloon was then successfully recovered just a few hours later, having recorded plenty of exciting and useful data.
According to Nashua Area Radio Society Keymaster Fred Kemmerer, the balloon “burst at 114,815 ft asl. This was quite close to our predicted burst altitude of 110,000 ft asl.”
A full breakdown of HAB-3's travels, including its flight path for the entire journey and the final landing spot, can be found at the Nashua Area Radio Society.
This launch offered a great experience for World Academy’s STEM students to earn hands-on experience planning, launching, and documenting a real-world experiment.
