Program Paradigm
The basis for World Academy’s programming combines several theories related to learning and the environment. Erik Erikson’s theory, which emphasizes the importance of creating a comfortable and healthy environment as a foundation for learning, is of paramount importance to our process. We strive to make curriculum meaningful, based on John Dewey’s thoughts that children learn better when they can relate to the subject at hand, can experiment, and can practice.
Based on the theories of Jean Piaget, we have developed a curriculum mindful of children’s thought processes and stages, and we are acutely aware that a carefully planned environment, intelligent teachers, and work with peers are very important to the learning process, as Maria Montessori and Lev Vygotsky point out*.
Educating, Nurturing, and Enhancing “Whole Child” Development
Having grown from an early childhood program to addressing the needs of Middle School students for nearly 50 years, we have learned to embrace all of the above theories in our progressive educational setting. Our goal has always been to offer the best, most comprehensive programming to meet the full range of individual needs of each of our students, while being mindful of the varying rates of learning and abilities each possesses.
We seek students of diverse talents, backgrounds, experiences and cultures who will benefit from an environment that encourages academic, social, emotional, physical, moral, creative, and cultural development. We are committed to educating students to be independent thinkers, resourceful problem-solvers, good citizens, life-long learners and well-rounded individuals.
Our Educational philosophies can be summed up as being developmentally appropriate, academically rigorous, pluralistic, 21st Century learning focused, responsive, family-oriented and whole child at the core.
A Place For Students To Truly Thrive
By integrating the above theories and philosophies, we provide our students with an opportunity to flourish in a culture that fosters a love of learning and supports a seamless learning experience. It also allows us to tailor programs to encourage children to excel in areas of strength and interest, and to be individually mentored through those in which they need more support. Through this type of curriculum and delivery system, we are achieving our goals of helping each unique child reach their full potential and providing them with the tools necessary to thrive and succeed in the global future.
