World Academy Students Join 11th Annual Water Walk

World Academy fifth- and sixth-grade students, joined by members of the Middle School Girls Soccer Team, participated in the Thank You Project’s 11th Annual Water Walk. The well-attended community event raised awareness of the global water crisis and supported efforts to expand access to clean, reliable water in rural Nigeria.

The experience offered a meaningful extension of students’ science studies. Fifth graders are exploring the availability of freshwater on Earth, while sixth graders are examining why freshwater resources are not evenly distributed and how access to clean water affects communities.

Earlier in the week, students welcomed Charles Okorie, parent of two World Academy alumni and leader of the Thank You Project. Mr. Okorie shared how constructing freshwater wells can reduce illness, improve quality of life, and create lasting change for families who may otherwise walk more than two miles each day to collect water that is not always safe.

The Thank You Project is currently working toward its eighth well while also providing college scholarships to students in Nigeria. World Academy was proud to participate in an event that brought classroom learning and community action together in such a memorable way.
