Martha Maye

Secretary of Advisory Board, Substitute Teacher

Martha Maye earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Maine. She joined World Academy in 1997 as a member of the Afterschool Program and Summer Camp Director. Wanting a professional change, she seized the opportunity to move into school administration as the Assistant Director. Her responsibilities focused on the school’s prestigious NEASC accreditation and supported teacher mentoring for the ECE program until her retirement in 2015. She is presently the Secretary for the World Academy’s Advisory Board and a very popular call-in substitute. We revel in seeing her as often as possible.  She is so optimistic and upbeat!!!!!

She and her husband, Ron, recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. They raised three children and have been blessed with eight amazing and spirited grandchildren. They enjoy traveling the United States and love spending time with family and friends. Martha enjoys baking and gardening.

Martha believes teachers, in partnership with parents, are responsible for developing the child’s natural curiosity and fostering the child’s enthusiasm through new and developmentally appropriate experiences for lifelong learning in a respectful, safe, and nurturing environment. She understands a child’s need to be challenged and enriched. She feels that in school, children can learn about rules, fairness, communication, and cooperation when working and playing together as a part of a community and that our school is that community to create lifelong learners, cooperative individuals, and critical thinkers with teachers as guides and parents as partners.

Martha is one of the most sincerely optimistic people we know.  She brings happiness wherever she goes and truly embodies the positive climate and culture of our school.  She makes our “World” so much better just by being in it!  Thank you for being here, Martha!!
